Mark Koehl - President & Founder

Mark was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. From an early age Mark was involved in various sports including soccer, baseball, football, and gymnastics. A spinal injury discovered in middle school prevented his involvement in sports throughout high school and college forcing Mark to focus on academics and music. He graduated summa cum laude from Robert E. Lee High School in 1992. As a three-time Texas All-State musician, Mark was offered a generous music scholarship to Baylor University.

Growing up, Mark always wanted to be a doctor. However, to receive a scholarship he had to major in music. It was not common to complete the pre-medical curriculum as a Music Performance student. Advisors at Baylor told Mark it would take six years, and he would struggle to maintain the grades needed for medical school admission. Four years later, Mark completed his Bachelor of Music Degree in trumpet performance as well as the pre-medical curriculum. He was named the Outstanding Baylor Music School Student and Golden Key National Honor Society Most Outstanding Senior. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 grade point average in 1996, ranking number one in his class. He then attended medical school at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.

After two years, ranking second in his class of 200 students, Mark took a leave of absence from medical school. After much contemplation, he decided not to return. At the time, he was not sure why it was not the path for him, but he knew he had another calling.

Returning to music and performance, Mark obtained a Texas teaching certificate and became a band director at Ronald Reagan High School in San Antonio. Mark spent seven years as the Assistant Director of Bands and two years as the Director of Bands at Reagan. Mark's time at Reagan helped him gain incredible experience as a teacher, performer, leader, and manager.

Mark watched the Ironman World Championship on television in the sixth grade and decided at that moment that he would someday attempt a task of that magnitude. He began to train in running and weight-lifting throughout college and in medical school he found a love for the game of golf. Once settled at Reagan, he began to learn the sport of triathlon.

Mark has been a competitive triathlete in the San Antonio area since 2001. His racing experience includes 5K to marathon running, sprint to Ironman triathlons, duathlons, and road racing. Ranking in the top 5% of American triathletes in his age group Mark was named All-American Honorable Mention in 2005.

Later that year, Mark became a certified USA Triathlon Level 1 coach and began his first fitness business, NOW Multisport. Mark began coaching triathletes out of a desire to help others experience how the sport of triathlon can enhance one's life. Mark has thoroughly studied the Total Immersion approach to proper swim technique and has received valuable swim instruction from Olympic and Ironman record holders. With this knowledge Mark has helped triathletes of all levels reach new degrees of efficiency and confidence in the water. With the help of the Computrainer, Mark helps athletes improve their pedaling efficiency, body position, cadence, and power output on the bike. Mark has extensively studied the Pose Method of running. His research on the latest information on running technique allows him to help athletes improve their running efficiency.

In 2005, Mark became a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). Since then, he has earned the upper level certifications of NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) and the NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES). In addition, Mark is a Certified CrossFit Level 1 instructor with specializations in running and Olympic lifting.

In August of 2007, Mark's mother had a stroke and began an eight-month decline in health that eventually led to her death at age 62 in April of 2008. Mrs. Koehl suffered complications from obesity-related diabetes that eventually led to congestive heart failure. After his mother's death, Mark found clarity of purpose. He began planning how he could use his unique background of music, medicine, and teaching to build a team of trainers that would take the lead in preventive healthcare.

Mark opened Fit RiGHT! of San Antonio in June 2009 with his partner, Lee Robin, President and Founder of Computer NERDZ!.
